Nominet UK - Christmas Party
With a Bavarian Christmas theme, Bratwurst Roasting and mulled wine in abundance, we could not have been more excited for Nominet UK's Christmas Celebration.
Nominet reached out to us after meeting us at the London Christmas Party show last year, one of our many fantastic Corporate Event clients who met us through the networking events we are proud to attend throughout the year.
After a consultation with Nominet's in-house events team, we were able to come up with a warm 'indie-pop' concept, befitting the setting and feel of their Bavarian-style event, without falling into pastiche and whilst still catering to the music taste of Nominet's diverse group of staff.
To begin the evening with light music, and set the tone, Geek Chic provided our Solo Musician Benji, who played two acoustic requests sets to warm the guests up, whilst they themselves warmed up with mulled wine, and street food from local vendors.
Benji's set list included requests from Stevie Wonder's 'Isn't She Lovely' to 'Call Me Maybe' By Carly Rae Jepsen, and a lot of fun was had by members of the nominet team filling out request cards and placing them into our requests post-box, especially seeing the reaction on Benji's face before he played them!
Requests sets can be a great ice breaker for corporate events, a way to ensure as many people as possible hear music they enjoy, whilst maintaining a relaxed mood and ambience at the beginning of an evening, and sets can be cleverly structured to build up to more upbeat numbers towards the end, ready for the main party to begin. We also highly recommend requests sets for our restaurant and bar clients, and provide request pianist and acoustic musicians to hotel clients to entertain guests during evening services.
After Benji's sets, our 3 piece live band 'Splash Zone' then got the dancing started with a huge range of indie, pop, country and dance hits, in a unique acoustic style perfectly fitting into the beautiful Freud Oxford. The band's electro-acoustic line up comprised of acoustic guitar, clean electric guitar and cocktail style drums, creating a sound which was perfect for dancing, but fit well into the setting of a large, open church style space, without creating a cutting sound. With Geek Chic's technical team on-hand, under the warm glow of our theatrical style lighting and production package, we provided a full show for the invited guests, making the event a night to remember.
Perhaps an even more befitting fact is that our band for this event was comprised of three working actor musicians in the Theatre industry, with the venue itself serving a time as a theatre venue. It's the little touches!
